5 Minute Friday- On Forgetting

I'm linking up with Gypsy Mama again this week and today's topic is On Forgetting.  Enjoy!

Got five minutes? Here’s a great way to spend them.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat without editing your voice.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Pony up the comment love for the five minuter who linked up before you.

Ready. Set. Go!

I think in motherhood, or possibly adulthood in general, I spend most of my time trying not to forget something.  Where are my keys?  Where are K’s shoes?  Where are my shoes?  Did I pay the water bill this month?  Did I remember to sign P or N’s permission slip?  Did I remember to tell Will to turn off the sprinkler so the garden doesn’t DIE!?  And then there are the important things too I find myself trying not to forget lately- the time spent as a little girl with my Big Daddy in the pool.  The moments spent with my grandpa in his garden and at his house each Christmas Eve.  The sound of love one’s who have passed voices.  The softness of my Nana’s skin.  The feeling of sweet baby kicks and hiccups when I was pregnant with K.  The excitement and nervousness of my wedding day.  The sweet, light smell of a freshly bathed newborn.  The fun moments and memories with friends that seem a lifetime ago.  And many, many more things.  I force my brain often to remember these things.  I mostly try to remember things that I can tell my kids about my grandfathers.  I lost one at the age of 9 and another at the age of 16- I was more than old enough to remember things, but as I am getting older- it seems a lifetime ago.  Forgetting seems to just come with age- the more we try to remember, the more we seem to forget.

And… in light of this coming Monday- let us not forget the sacrifice that has been made past and present by the members of our military.  Thank you for your service and the gift of your life to keep us all free!  Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone!

I am with you on the forgetting things. It seems like since I had my daughter that I am always forgetting something.

It is so important to remember our loved ones, but I know as time passes it gets harder.

A great way to remember your grandfathers and the fun times you had with them is to write down thos memories. After my grandfather passed away recently I wrote a blog post about everything I remembered about him. That way as time goes on I can look back and remember things I might have forgotten.

Have a wonderful Memorial weekend.
